From 4 to 15 July the Diocese of Edinburgh welcomed into its life a number of bishops, together with their spouses, who were in Scotland prior to the Lambeth Conference.
At a service in St Mary’s Cathedral on 6 July the Bishop of Cape Coast (Ghana) with the Bishop of Edinburgh confirmed a partnership agreement between the two dioceses that had been inaugurated in November 2007 when the Bishop of Edinburgh visited Cape Coast.
In addition, bishops (including two archbishops) from Brazil, Canada, South Africa, the United States, St Helena, Papua New Guinea, and India, have come to the Diocese. They have visited and meet with congregations, and shared in other events arranged for them, including a reception at the City Chambers.
The bishops and their spouses who are visiting the Diocese of Edinburgh will join with others who are currently visiting the other Scottish dioceses, when they travel together by coach to Canterbury on 15 July.
The Bishop of Edinburgh said, “It is a great privilege to have had so many visitors staying with us prior to the meeting of the Lambeth Conference. We are all looking forward to meeting everyone at the conference in Canterbury, at what is a very significant time for the Anglican Communion.”
