The Diocese of Edinburgh is one of the seven dioceses of the Scottish Episcopal Church which is a province within the Anglican Communion. One of the diocesan bishops is elected Primus by the College of Bishops and acts as spokesperson (we do not have the post of Archbishop).
The Governance, both in the Province and within the Diocese, is through a synodical system including a house of laity and a house of clergy. Within the Scottish Episcopal Church there are no suffragan bishops, a dean is appointed by the bishop, and provosts are ‘rectors’ of the cathedrals.
The first point of contact with the Diocese is the Diocesan Centre, whose staff will be able to answer any questions you may have which are not available from this website. Please see our Who’s Who directory for contact details for all Edinburgh Diocese office holders and staff.
