Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to some common questions we receive at the Diocese office. Please contact us for more about these topics and any questions you may have.
Weddings
The Christian tradition has been involved in the blessing and registration of marriage for centuries. The Diocese of Edinburgh welcomes everyone planning a wedding… but where do you start?
Baptisms
Baptism is the full admission into the life of the church. The Scottish Episcopal Church believes in one baptism for the forgiveness of sins, and therefore recognises the baptisms of all trinitarian churches.
Funerals and burials
Many people come to the church during moments of grief around the death of a loved one, and the Christian tradition offers much to sustain and give comfort during this time.
Tracing ancestry
Churches within the diocese have records of births, marriages and deaths and some have detailed historic records of plots of graves as well.
Rosslyn Chapel
Over the last few years, there has been increased interest in the beautiful chapel of Rosslyn on the outskirts of Edinburgh. Rosslyn Chapel is a worshipping chapel within the diocese, but is managed by a trust.
Deliverance ministry
There is a priest in the diocese who is experienced in the paranormal and deliverancy ministry (exorcism).
