The Diocese of Edinburgh is governed through a Synodical System including a House of Laity and a House of Clergy. Within the Scottish Episcopal Church there are no suffragan bishops, a Dean is appointed by the Bishop, and provosts are ‘rectors’ of the cathedrals.
